The hardest part of getting fit

The hardest part of getting fit isn’t what you think it might be, by Travis Dalrymple

The fitness world has been constantly changing over the past few decades. Each year it seems like there’s a new “type” of fitness. All of them have the same overall goal, which is to change the way your body looks or the way your mind behaves. It may seem like an oversimplification, but every fitness trend out there can really boil down to one of those two factors.

So what’s holding people back? Why aren’t they seeing results? If we had to choose one thing that’s holding everyone (and possibly you) back, what is it?

Patience.

In order for any type of program to be successful, you have to stay patient. You have to be willing to follow that program for at least 3 months in order to see any kind of change.

I’m sure you’ve been in a situation where you tried out a new program for a few weeks, but didn’t see the results you were looking for. So you moved on. The simple fact is this: You didn’t give it enough time.

Your body is an immensely complex machine. It takes time for it to adjust to your new surroundings, and that includes a new program. In order to truly see results from any program, you need to stay patient so your body has time to adapt.

The adaption can apply to all areas of health and wellness. In order to lose weight, your body needs time to adjust to your new nutrition plan. In order to gain muscle, your body needs time in order to adjust to your new strength training. In order to relieve stress, your mind needs to adjust to your new mindful practices. In order to improve your sleep, your body needs time to adjust to your new sleep routines.

If you want to hit your goals and continue to hit goals, the hardest part is staying patient. Consistency and repetition are your secret weapons. So while everyone else falls off their “diet” or the new fitness trend they’ve started, you’ll be sneaking past them one day at a time!

Patience is key.
