Bodyweight Exercises for Kids’ Development

Bodyweight exercises form the cornerstone of foundational physical development for children. Movements such as squats, jumping jacks, and lunges can help improve coordination, balance, and motor skills. These are some of the exercises that will set the stage for more complex physical tasks as kids grow. Bodyweight exercises are a great way to show your kids that exercising can be fun and not a chore.

Kids will always want to play. If presented in a playful way children can develop a positive association with physical activity from a young age. Having these exercises thrown in a setting of a game will also help stimulate their brain and help with the development of different skills such as memory and problem solving. Having fun with fitness is just as important as the physical benefits it provides.

Being able to perform bodyweight exercises help children develop muscular strength and endurance. Movements such as the push-up and plank help engage numerous muscle groups such as the shoulders, chest, and core. This helps with their overall fitness but also the carry over it will have to sports and other physical challenges.

Bodyweight movements can also include stretching. Incorporating a stretching routine from a young age will help with keeping the joints and muscles healthy. Also being able to prevent injuries by building muscle and being flexible is another benefit. This also helps instill the habit of stretching at a young age and the importance of why it should be done.

The cool thing about bodyweight exercises is how accessible they can be. They can be done anywhere and at most times of the day. No expensive gear is  required to be able to do these exercises and it’s still a great way to build your fitness as you get older. This is a great way for children to get started on their fitness journey. These simple yet effective movements are a great tool for children to have in their toolbox.
