Why JCFit is different

If you are reading this, you are very likely to be looking for a gym.  

Maybe you just moved to Jersey City and are looking for somewhere similar to where you worked out before.

Maybe your current gym isn’t getting you the results you’re looking for and you want to switch things up a bit.

Maybe you are looking for your first ever gym membership and you have no idea what you should be looking for given the multitude of options available to you, at very different price points.

So far this year (mid-December 2025), I’ve sat down with over 125 people that fit into one or more of the above categories.  

We’ve had a conversation about their goals, why those goals are important to them, what’s worked or failed in the past and how we might be able to help.

We call that a No Sweat Intro and it’s the first step in what we hope will become one of several new firm friendships.

Humans thrive on being part of a group or a community.  Yes, we can also be very comfortable on our own but the best version of ourselves is often brought out by being with others: friends, partners, colleagues, members of the same social group, or gym.

This is what JCFit is all about – helping you bring out the best version of yourself, in terms of your Health, Happiness and Performance (mentally as well as physically), in an environment of like-minded members, some of whom will become great friends, that support and encourage each other.

Where we differ from many of the alternatives is that while you are working out in a small group, you will always get 1:1 coaching and a version of the workout tailored specifically to your personal needs and ability.

And we don’t just throw you into a session and figure things out as you go along. We get you started with our OnRamp program; a series of 1:1 coached sessions to introduce you to the foundational movements you’ll see in our group classes and establish a baseline of your initial ‘fitness’ across a broad strength and conditioning program that we use to measure your progress (it’s called The Level Method and we’ll introduce it to you in your No Sweat Intro).

This is what sets us apart from many other gyms.  

  • We coach you every time you show up and record every rep you do
  • We help keep you accountable by having you reserve your sessions (you are way more likely to show up if you’ve made that appointment)
  • We celebrate your weekly streaks to maintain motivation
  • We have a monthly focus to help you see real progress on specific movements
  • We’ll sit down with you each quarter to review your progress and set new goals

More than half of our members have been with us for almost 2 years or longer (22 months to be precise).

25 members have been with us for over 5 years and 4 are at 10+ years!

What do these members have in common?  They show up, consistently.

We can’t, and won’t, promise any sort of results.  What you do outside the gym is also important and we can only determine what you do inside the gym (that will be between 3 and 6 hours each week out of a total of 168 hours).  Anyone else that does promise something should be viewed with caution.

We encourage you to look around and pick your gym as carefully as you’d evaluate if someone you just met had the potential to become a good friend. After all you’ll be spending a fair amount of quality time together and you’ll get to know each other pretty well.
