If your newsfeed, Instagram feed or any other feed you subscribe to is anything like mine, you’ll not go a day without hearing the L word: LONGEVITY
There was even a segment on 60 Minutes a couple of weeks ago with one of the foremost names in the space, Dr Peter Attia.

And it will be accompanied by all the latest trends: NAD+, infra-red saunas and cold plunges (contrast exposure therapy), your ‘inner-age’ vs your chronological age and all sorts of other ways to prolong your lifespan and your healthspan.
“What’s the difference?” you might ask.
Lifespan is how long you live
Healthspan is how long you live well
Currently there’s a difference between the two of about 10 years. That means most people can expect to live the last 10 years of their life with some sort of chronic disease or disability and modern medicine is doing all it can to increase this number by treating the symptoms rather than finding a cure.
The GREAT news is, we don’t need to ‘invent’ a cure. The cure is in our behaviors; therefore it’s in our own hands and it’s really quite simple with no expensive interventions required.
The Basics
SLEEP: 7-8 hours of good quality sleep each night with a consistent bedtime and wake time.
MOVEMENT & STRENGTH: maintaining muscle mass and regular cardio-vascular activity will protect your body’s structure, metabolism and resilience.
NUTRITION: eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.
CONNECTION: there is a strong correlation between having a good social network (in person, not online) and good relationships with a longer, healthier and more active life.

At JCFit, we’ll help with the latter 3 of those.
We design and coach functional strength and conditioning programs that are often completed in a small group of like-minded people who encourage and support each other both in and out of the gym (we had 11 members run the NYC marathon last weekend!). And we have a 4 week program designed to build better habits around nutrition.
